Most experts and insiders were convinced that Wimbledon was the Grand Slam tournament in which the former world number 1 had the best chance of doing a new feat, instead his run ended in a rather sad way also due to a muscle problem.
After that disappointment, the legend from Belgrade decided to recharge his batteries for about a month and a half by missing the Canadian Open in Toronto and the Cincinnati Masters 1000 in August. The 24-time Grand Slam champion arrived in New York a few days ago and immediately had to play mixed doubles together with Olga Danilovic, being eliminated in the first round by Daniil Medvedev and Mirra Andreeva.
Nole has now returned to court
At this point in his career, Nole must also hope for a favorable draw if he wants to go far in a tournament that is really demanding from an athletic point of view. Some believe that he no longer has a chance of winning such a prestigious title, while others are convinced that it is a serious mistake to underestimate one of the best athletes of the modern era.
In the latter category there is also his compatriot Ana Ivanovic, who expressed some interesting considerations in an interview with ‘Sporty’.
“He’s been reducing the tournaments he’s been playing, which completely makes sense. But, at the same time, at the final stages, you might need some of that match fitness and so on. But still, his recovery after matches, his physical strength and mental strength are still there, so I can definitely see him going far” – the former WTA star explained.
