Katt Williams Says He Refused To Film A Sexual Assault Scene In ‘Friday After Next’: “Rape Is Never Funny”

Katt Williams put his foot down when it came to filming a scripted sexual assault scene in the 2002 cult comedy Friday After Next.

The comedian recently revealed that he refused to shoot the bit because “rape is never funny.”

In the movie, Williams plays a pimp named Money Mike, who, during one scene, is going to the bathroom when ex-convict Damon (Terry Crews) comes in with the intention to sexually assault him.

Money Mike is ultimately able to break free by clamping Damon’s testicles in a pair of pliers.

However, the original script wasn’t written that way, according to Williams, who appeared on a recent episode of Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast. Instead, his character was allegedly supposed to get “raped in the bathroom” — a scene he claimed his co-star and comedian Rickey Smiley was “OK with.”

“Katt Williams had to take the risk in front of the studios, and the cast, and the powers that be — in his very first movie — and say respectfully, humbly, ‘Guys, if we’re talking about anything else I have no credibility and I have no pull, but we’re talking about comedy, where I have all the credibility and all the pull,’” Williams recalled.

He continued, “The problem with Friday After Next is we’re trying to make a classic comedy, and this comedy involves a rape, and rape is never funny no matter who it happens to or what the circumstances are.”

The actor said he promised the cast and crew that he would come up with a way to make the movie “twice as funny” by leaving out the scene with a “Black man getting raped.”

Meanwhile, fans of the movie have taken to X (the platform formerly known as Twitter) to praise Williams for putting the kibosh on the controversial scene.

“Katt Williams is 100% right, I would not have found [Friday After Next] as funny if there was a rape scene,” one wrote, while another added, “Katt Williams was a real one for saying no to the rape scene.”

A third person said, “I agree with Katt Williams like rape is not funny and I wish more idiotic comedians understood that,” before someone else chimed in, “Katt Williams has ALL my respect for that stand he made alone.”
