Coldplay’s Chris Martin warns fans about kiss cam after viral video of Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and HR chief sparks affair rumors
During Coldplay’s concert at Camp Randall Stadium in Wisconsin on Saturday, Martin teased the audience: “We’d like to say hello to some of you in the crowd,” before adding with a laugh, “How we’re gonna do that is we’re gonna use our cameras and put some of you on the big screen.”
“So please, if you haven’t done your makeup, do your makeup now,” Huffington Post quoted the singer as saying.
The warning was a reference to the alleged affair exposed at the Gillete Stadium in Massachusetts last week, where a couple quickly hid their faces and scrambled away after being spotted by the band’s “kiss cam”.
Martin reacted to the moment, live on stage: “They’re either having an affair or they’re just very shy.”
The footage rapidly gained traction online, sparking widespread speculation that the pair were cheating. They were soon identified as Andy Byron, married and CEO of Astronomer, and Kristin Cabot, the company’s chief people officer. Following the incident, Byron has stepped down from his role.
Astronomer, valued at roughly US$1.3 billion and under Byron’s leadership since July 2023, confirmed its board has launched a formal investigation into the CEO’s conduct. In the meantime, Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy will step in as interim CEO, The Sun reported.
The poster of the original video gave an interview with The Sun in which she explained that she meant no harm and she simply captured an amusing kiss-cam moment. She confessed feeling guilty about the fallout but ultimately stood by her decision to share it.
Online comments on Reddit revealed that Chris Martin regularly uses the kiss cam to interact with the audience at his shows, but the couple’s reaction escalated the situation. Neither Andy Byron nor Coldplay has directly addressed the incident, while the Internet continues to flood with memes and humorous videos mocking the viral moment.
