Emma Raducanu reveals why she quit therapy after only two sessions

Emma Raducanu reveals she once went to therapy but called quits on it after only two sessions because she didn’t think that anyone could understand or relate to her case.

In the first part of 2024, Raducanu didn’t play any tournaments since she was concluding her school duties and she wasn’t even a pro tennis player at that point. Then the British teenager made her Grand Slam debut at Wimbledon, where she made the round-of-16 as a wildcard. While her Wimbledon campaign was very impressive, nobody was ready for the Briton’s next feat – she won a total of 10 matches – all in straight sets – across three weeks at the US Open to become the first ever male or female qualifier to win a Grand Slam.

Emma Raducanu reveals why she quit therapy after only two sessions

At the time, Raducanu was on top of the world and she soon became the face of some of the most luxurious and prestigious brands in the world. But when good results failed to follow, she also quickly became one of the most criticized and scrutinized players on the Tour.

At one point, Raducanu even publicly said that she regretted her US Open triumph because of the negative stuff that came afterward.

Raducanu: No athlete has done what I’ve done… I’m the only one capable of helping myself

“I’ve tried (therapy). I’ve tried. I’ve obviously been recommended to do it a lot, with what I went through. It was something that not many people, well actually, no one has gone through, which is probably the reason I did two sessions and I stopped. I was like: ‘Look, these guys, they don’t relate.’ And, to be honest, no other athlete has done what I’ve done, so I don’t know why I’m taking advice from them. So I was like: ‘OK, well, the only person who can help me is myself,'” the 22-year-old told The Guardian.

In some of her past interviews, Raducanu suggested that certain people didn’t have the purest intentions when they were offering business partnerships. However, that is a thing of the past as the British tennis star has said several times over the last months that she is now surrounded with the right people and deals much better with certain stuff.
