“No Panic, Just Purpose”: Nick Sirianni Talks Eagles’ Mentality and Jalen Hurts’ Leadership After Consecutive Losses

Can Jalen Hurts and Nick Sirianni combine to save the coach's job?

PHILADELPHIA — For the first time this season, the Philadelphia Eagles find themselves facing adversity. After dropping two consecutive games — including a frustrating 20–13 loss to the New York Giants — head coach Nick Sirianni stood before the media this week and delivered a message that was equal parts accountability and optimism.

“There’s no panic,” Sirianni said. “There’s purpose. We know who we are, and we know what needs to be fixed. The key is how we respond.”

The message was clear: the Eagles are not spiraling, but they are soul-searching. With the team sitting at 4–2, the losses have stirred unease among fans and media, but inside the NovaCare Complex, Sirianni insists the mood remains confident — not complacent.

🏈 Embracing Adversity, Not Excuses

The Eagles entered the season with Super Bowl aspirations and one of the most talented rosters in football. Yet, after back-to-back offensive struggles, questions have emerged about play-calling, execution, and chemistry.

Still, Sirianni refused to feed into panic narratives.

“Adversity reveals character,” he said. “We’ve got a locker room full of guys who have been through this before — who’ve won, lost, and battled through tough stretches. We trust our preparation, and we trust each other.”

His tone was calm but direct, echoing a culture that has defined Philadelphia football in recent years.

Sirianni acknowledged that the team’s recent losses have been frustrating, particularly on offense. The once-feared Eagles rushing attack — ranked top five in 2023 — has slipped to the middle of the pack. Miscommunication, missed assignments, and penalties have compounded their struggles.

But the third-year head coach made one thing clear: the issues are fixable.

“There’s nothing broken,” Sirianni emphasized. “It’s details. It’s fundamentals. It’s execution. We’ve been here before, and we’ve come out stronger every time.”

⚙️ A Self-Aware Offense in Transition

The Eagles’ offense, led by Jalen Hurts, remains loaded with star power: A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, and D’Andre Swift. Yet the unit hasn’t clicked the way it did during their 2022 Super Bowl run.

Right tackle Lane Johnson said after the loss to the Giants that the offense had become “too predictable,” a sentiment Sirianni didn’t shy away from addressing.

“Lane’s right to say that,” Sirianni admitted. “We need to keep defenses guessing. That’s on us as coaches — to design, to adapt, and to make sure our guys are playing fast and confident.”

Sirianni explained that part of the challenge lies in balancing structure with autonomy — especially when it comes to Jalen Hurts’ responsibilities at the line of scrimmage.

“Jalen has a lot of freedom at the line,” he said. “He’s earned that. He’s one of the smartest, most disciplined players I’ve ever coached. But we’re always evaluating where we can help him — schematically and situationally.”

Hurts’ pre-snap autonomy, often lauded as a key to his success, can also make the offense susceptible to defensive disguises. Opponents, like the Giants last week, have been shifting coverages late to disrupt his reads.

Still, Sirianni defended his quarterback’s decision-making.

“Jalen’s processing is elite,” Sirianni said. “When we lose, the first person to take the blame is usually the quarterback. But this is on all of us — coaches, linemen, receivers, backs. We’ve got to do a better job putting him in position to succeed.”

💪 The Leadership of Jalen Hurts

If Sirianni is the voice of calm, Jalen Hurts is the embodiment of resilience. After Thursday’s loss, the 26-year-old quarterback spoke candidly about accountability and focus.

“We’ve been here before,” Hurts said. “What defines us isn’t the loss — it’s what we do next. We’ve got the right people in this locker room. We just need to play to our standard.”

Teammates say Hurts’ poise continues to anchor the team. Linebacker Haason Reddick called him “the same guy every day,” while A.J. Brown described him as “stoic but passionate.”

Sirianni praised his quarterback’s leadership both on and off the field.

“He’s not a guy who points fingers,” Sirianni said. “He’s a guy who says, ‘Put it on me.’ And when your quarterback says that, everyone else follows.”

Hurts’ leadership was especially evident during Friday’s team meeting, when he reportedly stood up and addressed the entire locker room, urging unity and focus. “We’ve got too much talent to let this slip,” he said, according to teammates.

That message resonated. “It wasn’t emotional — it was powerful,” said running back D’Andre Swift. “He reminded us that this isn’t who we are.”

🦅 Fixing the Fundamentals

When asked what the Eagles need to do to get back on track, Sirianni’s response was simple: “Execute.”

“We’ve got to get back to being who we are — physical, smart, and aggressive,” he said. “It starts with the run game, with the O-line, and with finishing drives.”

The film review from the Giants loss highlighted several key areas of concern:

  • Missed blocks on the left side of the line (especially from backup guard Brett Toth)
  • Inconsistent pass protection leading to hurried throws
  • A lack of pre-snap motion and misdirection, which once defined their offense
  • Red-zone inefficiency — the Eagles scored just once on four trips inside the 20

Sirianni said the coaching staff spent the weekend refining the offensive game plan, aiming for a balance between creativity and execution.

“You’ll see some wrinkles this week,” he teased. “But more than anything, you’ll see energy. You’ll see a team playing with urgency.”

Avoiding a Repeat of 2023

The “meltdown” comparison to the 2023 season — when the Eagles lost five of their last six games — has surfaced again among fans and even within the locker room. But Sirianni dismissed any notion of history repeating itself.

“We’re not the same team,” he said firmly. “That experience made us stronger. We know what it feels like to fall short, and we know what it takes to finish.”

The head coach said the team has focused this week on communication and mindset. “We’ve talked about being intentional,” he explained. “Every rep, every meeting, every game plan detail — that’s where championships are won.”

The Eagles will have a chance to prove that focus when they travel to Minnesota to face the Vikings in Week 7 — a matchup that could define their midseason trajectory.

🏆 “No Panic, Just Purpose”

As practice wrapped up Friday, Sirianni gathered his players at midfield. He spoke briefly — no shouting, no theatrics. Just a reminder of what the team stands for.

“No panic, just purpose,” he told them. “We’ve been here before. We know who we are. Now let’s go show it.”

For a team fighting to regain its rhythm, those words may prove to be the spark they need.

Because if the Eagles can channel their frustration into focus — if they can turn back-to-back losses into a rallying cry — they won’t just survive this stretch.

They’ll come out of it stronger, sharper, and more determined than ever.
