Johnson Wagner makes claim about Collin Morikawa which can be proven completely false

Collin Morikawa has been in really poor form on the PGA Tour since March.

After his T-10 finish at The Players Championship, Morikawa recorded just one more top-10 finish on the PGA Tour in 2025

This year has been a season of real upheaval for the 28-year-old.

Morikawa actually used five different caddies throughout the 2025 season.

The Californian’s loss of form has been alarming to say the least and his struggles were laid bare in front of the world during the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black last month.

He is without a win since October 2023 and seems to be an absolute shadow of his former self.

Morikawa blamed poor putting on the PGA Tour in 2025 as the main reason for his poor form but in truth, there were many more issues than just his substandard performances on the greens.

Johnson Wagner makes Collin Morikawa prediction

When speaking on The 5 Clubs Podcast, Johnson Wagner made a prediction about what the future may hold for Morikawa.

When asked who he is most confident about returning to his best out of Morikawa, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas and Patrick Cantlay, Wagner didn’t hesitate to give his answer.

He said: I think Collin Morikawa, he’s 28 years old. I think he’s gone through a lot this year, changing up caddies and once he figures it out, he’s going to be back.

He’s just too good of a ball striker, he’s gotten better around the greens, his putting has gotten better. I think he’ll be back, I think the best is still possibly ahead of him.

I think he’s going to get another one pretty soon (major championship). Getting back across that finish line one more time is going to get him the confidence he needs.

The thing with this statement from Wagner is that, unfortunately, the stats don’t back it up.

Collin Morikawa’s putting and chipping stats over the past three years

Morikawa’s putting and chipping have actually regressed, unlike what Wagner claimed.

Here are the 28-year-old’s strokes gained putting and around the green stats over the past three seasons.

Season Strokes gained putting Strokes gained around the greens
2025 150th 110th
2024 73rd 10th
2022-23 114th 96th

As you can see from those stats, Morikawa’s putting and chipping have actually both got worse over the past couple of years, rather than better.

If he is to return to his very best, Morikawa needs to address those two specific weaknesses in his game as a matter of urgency.
