Dak Prescott has come to the defense of Jerry Jones many times, and Thursday provided yet another example of it.

In an interview for the Wall Street Journal, the Dallas Cowboys owner/general manager admitted that his priorities currently lay elsewhere, leading him to neglect the team’s roster:

“There’s $100 billion present value with (natural) gas out there. That’s why I’m talking to you on the telephone rather than trying to fix our defense with the Dallas Cowboys.”

That has understandably led to frustration from fans, but Prescott tried to assuage them by claiming that Jones had been taken out of context when asked about the comments during practice for Monday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals:

“I would just say the guy has never really lied about who he is or what he’s trying to do. …Maybe in those five minutes is what he was alluding to, and having a chance at a $100 billion opportunity I think you might take five minutes as well to answer a call. Hopefully that’s what he means.”

Still, the main focus is on winning:

“For us as players, we control what we can control. That doesn’t pertain to us right now.”

Dak Prescott said he can sympathize with fans who are frustrated about this recent Jerry Jones quote to the @WSJ: “There’s $100 billion present value with (natural) gas out there. That’s why I’m talking to you on the telephone rather than trying to fix our defense with the

Dak Prescott speaks up on upcoming trade deadline

The annual trade deadline is now only five days away, and Dak Prescott sees it as a prime opportunity for the Cowboys to start improving after a 3-4-1 start. However, how it goes is not entirely up to him. In the same media availability, he said:

“To say one position is where we need to go, or that, I’m not sure. Leave it to the guys who are in those talks and I’m sure making those decisions and working hard right now.”

He added:

“I will go back to what I said after the last game. I just encourage the guys in the locker room to do whatever they can in this time to shut that talk up. That’s just all of us looking in the mirror and trying to say ‘Where can I be better’ and ‘How can I take advantage of this opportunity?’”

Some of the latest trade rumors involving the Cowboys linked them to star edge rushers Maxx Crosby and Trey Hendrickson, but the Las Vegas Raiders and Cincinnati Bengals rebuffed them respectively, according to Jay Glazer.
