Dan Quinn makes feelings known on Jayden Daniels’ injury as Commanders QB breaks his arm in Week 9 game vs. Seahawks

Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn and quarterback Jayden Daniels

Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn has taken responsibility for quarterback Jayden Daniels’ injury against the Seattle Seahawks. Daniels left Sunday’s loss to the Seahawks with a dislocated left elbow with 7:39 still on the clock.

Speaking on Monday, Quinn blamed himself for leaving the quarterback in the game too long. He said:

“I get that. I’ve been thinking about it nonstop, too, and, man, I missed it. That is 100% on me.”

Daniels was sacked by Seahawks linebacker Drake Thomas at the Seattle 4-yard line while scrambling to his right. His left elbow was twisted back on the tackle as he was left in pain. His left elbow was put in an air cast as he walked to the walker room, ignoring a cart.

32-year-old veteran Marcus Mariota entered the game to replace Jayden Daniels. He’s also expected to start next Sunday when Washington faces the Detroit Lions at Northwestern Stadium.

Daniels is not the only Commanders player who left Sunday’s game with an injury. Cornerback Marson Lattimore also left the game after tearing his ACL. Similarly, wide receiver Luke McCaffrey broke a collarbone on the opening kickoff.

The Commanders’ campaign has been marred with injuries this season, with Jayden Daniels only being the latest on a long list of injuries. Among their starters who have been put on injured reserve are running back Austin Ekeler and defensive ends Deatrich Wise Jr. and Dorance Armstrong.

Others are safety Will Harris and receiver Noah Brown. Meanwhile, receiver Terry McLaurin has now missed five games with a quad injury.

Jayden Daniels’ 2025 campaign before injury

Jayden Daniels’ performance before his injury last Sunday is symptomatic of the Commanders’ under-par season. In six games for Washington this season, the second-year quarterback has passed for 1,184 yards, eight touchdowns, and two interceptions. He has also rushed for an additional 262 yards and two touchdowns on 54 carries.

Before leaving the game on Sunday, he had completed 16 of 22 passes for 153 yards and an interception. It is not clear yet how severe Daniels’ injury is and how long he will be out for. If he would not need surgery, then the quarterback could be back in action by mid-December.

However, if he requires surgery, he will likely be sidelined for the rest of the campaign. The Commanders are behind the Cowboys and Eagles on the NFC East standings, with their next game against the Lions being very crucial.
