Brandel Chamblee remembers one of golf’s all-time greats in latest tweet – “Hardship builds resilience”

Brandel Chamblee

Brandel Chamblee opened up about golf legend Ben Hogan in a post on social media. The American had a decorated career and started playing professionally in 1930. He won 69 events in his career.

On Wednesday, Golf Digest shared a quote from Hogan on its X (formerly Twitter) account, in which he opened up about tough times in life. He said:

“I feel sorry for rich kids now. I really do, because they’re never going to have the opportunity I had. Because I know tough things, and I had a tough day all my life, and I can handle tough things. They can’t. And every day that I progressed was a joy for me, and I recognized that.”

Chamblee reshared the quote on his account along with a caption in which he opened up about the hardships of Hogan’s life. He wrote:

“He was born in 1912 and grew up very poor. He watched his father commit suicide. He was trying to make his way in life when the depression hit hard. Hardship builds resilience, which is an asset beyond price.”

Ben Hogan was born in 1912 in Texas to Chester Hogan and Clara. He was the youngest of their three children. His father worked as a blacksmith.

He had a hard time growing up. He was introduced to golf at the age of 11, and at the age of 17, he was hired as an assistant at Oakhurst Country Club. Hogan had an impressive career and won 64 tournaments on the PGA Tour, the fourth highest of all time.

He also won nine major tournaments, including two Masters, two PGA Championships, four U.S. Opens, and one Open Championship.

Brandel Chamblee reflected on the hardship Hogan had in his career in his post.

“Annual flashback to that embarrassing Halloween party when I dressed as a gray-haired blowhard who can’t play ⛳️ for 💩, then someone else showed up in the same costume.”
