Aaron Rai’s golf equipment made the headlines during his win at the 2025 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. The English golfer won his third European Tour event at the recently concluded event in Abu Dhabi. He registered a win after defeating fellow countryman Tommy Fleetwood in a playoff.
For last week’s outing, Rai played with a TaylorMade M6 set at 9°with a Mitsubishi Diamana BB 73 TX shaft, which was released in 2019. In addition to that, he played Pink Castle tee.
Golf Jamie Kennedy had shared a picture of Rai’s driver and pink castle tee on his X (formerly Twitter) account with a caption:
“Aaron Rai. In a playoff to win $1.5m, using a pink castle tee. My king.”
Aaron Rai also used iron covers at the 2025 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. Last year, in one of his interviews with SiriusXM PGA Tour, he opened up about the iron covers.
“I grew up in very much a working-class family and golf has always been a very expensive game. It started from the age of four years old, when my dad used to pay for my equipment, my membership, my entry fees. It wasn’t money that we really had but he’d always buy me the best clubs,” Rai said.
“When we used to go out and practice, he used to clean every single groove afterward with a pin and baby oil, and then to protect the golf clubs he thought it would be good to put iron covers on them. And I’ve pretty much had iron covers on all my sets ever since, just to kind of appreciate the value of what I have,” he added.
Why does Aaron Rai use iron covers? The story is actually pretty humbling.Last year he told @SiriusXMPGATour “I grew up in very much a working-class family and golf has always been a very expensive game. Aaron Rai started the campaign with an opening round of 66 and then played 64 in the next round. He carded 66 in the third round, followed by the final of 67. Fleetwood settled in second place, followed by Nicolai Hojgaard and Rory McIlroy tied for third place.
