Justin Jefferson did not contribute a lot during the Minnesota Vikings’ 31-0 victory over the Washington Commanders on Sunday. However, this fact did not affect the four-time Pro Bowler from celebrating his team’s victory.

In the postgame press conference, Justin Jefferson said that he would be happier with his team’s success rather than improving his individual season statistics.

“I’d rather win and not get the ball than lose and not get the ball,” Jefferson said. “As long as we win and this team is coming in here with a happy smile on their face, and you know, we have that confidence to continue on and continue to next week and to be better ourselves, and you know, to make sure that we continue this feeling. That’s the main objective.”

Against the Commanders, Justin Jefferson had 11 receiving yards on two receptions. He had a disappointing performance during last week’s 26-0 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, tallying just four receiving yards.

Quarterback J.J. McCarthy missed that game due to concussion protocol, resulting in backup Max Brosmer taking over the offense.

McCarthy has been dealing with injuries this season as well. However, his comeback performance on Sunday did not disappoint. The quarterback completed 16 of 23 passes for 163 yards and three touchdowns.

This win also helped the Vikings bring an end to their four-game losing streak. They currently sit dead last in the NFC North with a 5-8 record.

In the postgame press conference, Coach Kevin O’Connell revealed that Justin Jefferson tried to avoid him in order to try to play throughout the entire game on Sunday against the Commanders.

The Vikings coach also said that they will try to find more ways to get the wide receiver more passes on the field, and heaped praise on his leadership skills.

“We’re gonna find ways to get Justin the ball,” O’Connell said. “He did not play 60 minutes today. That was a tough conversation. He tried to avoid me and run out on the field with about seven or eight minutes left in the game. We were able to kind of, you know, a collective group effort betwee myself, Keenan and a couple other foks, our security guys as well. Because Justin did not want to come out of the game.

“If Justin has demonstrated anything this year, the leadership, the smile on his face right now, he wants to win. … He means the absolute world to this organization.”

The Vikings will next face the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday at 8:20 p.m. ET.
