Kris Boyd was almost killed in a shooting in Manhattan on November 16. Nearly a month later, his presumed assailant has finally been caught.

On Tuesday, New York police announced that they had arrested a certain Frederick Green, 20 years old and living in the Bronx, near the University of Buffalo North Campus in Amherst. He was later taken to a precinct in Midtown Manhattan, where he was charged with attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon.

Green had fled the New York City area after shooting Boyd. On Monday, the Buffalo department of the US Marshals Service and the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force confirmed that he had been spotted in a second-floor apartment.

He had peeked out of the window in search of an escape route, only to have to hide again after seeing a police squad. As the rest of the tenants inside the building began to be evacuated, he surrendered.

The firearm that had been used in the shooting was not found, while Green himself had “significantly changed his physical appearance, presumably to avoid detection.”

Kris Boyd had visited Jets teammates after surviving murder attempt

Some days after he was treated in hospital in relation to the shooting, Kris Boyd returned there because of unspecified “health issues.” Still, that did not stop him from visiting his teammates.

Last week, the cornerback was seen observing the Jets’ preparation for their game against the Miami Dolphins. Defensive tackle Harrison Phillips recalled his former Minnesota Vikings teammate receiving “a dap up, a high five or a semi-hug.”

Tight end Jeremy Ruckert said about seeing him:

“It was awesome. It’s not something that we at all thought or knew was going to happen today, so it was a good surprise to see him with such high hopes and positive energy.”

Edge rusher Jermaine Johnson, meanwhile, reflected:

“I’ve had friends that didn’t survive gunshot wounds, so to be able to see him walking around with a smile on his face, be able to [talk] with him, I mean, it’s always a blessing. [Guns] aren’t toys and they’re very deadly, so the fact that he walked away from it is a blessing.”

Boyd is out for the season, having injured his shoulder during preseason camp in the summer.
