Joe Burrow is in the midst of another disappointing campaign with the Cincinnati Bengals. After the team failed to qualify for the playoffs last season, there were high expectations for them in 2025. Unfortunately, they could not live up to those expectations.
After his comments during Wednesday’s press conference, there is an air of uncertainty regarding the quarterback’s future with the Bengals. However, according to retired Super Bowl champion Kurt Warner, the San Francisco 49ers should seize this potential opportunity and replace Brock Purdy with Burrow if he wants to leave the Bengals.
“I mean, that’s a tough question,” Warner said on “97.5 The Game. “You know I love Brock Purdy. I think Brock’s really good. Bit I also do believe Joe is better than Brock is and brings more to the table. And so, I think, if that were the case, you’d probably have 28 teams in the league that would say Joe Burrow would be an upgrade in the quarterback spot.
“That’s not a knock on any of these other guys. They’re really good quarterbacks in this league. It’s just, Joe’s one of the special ones.”

Joe Burrow suffered a toe injury in Week 2 that kept him sidelined until their 32-14 victory over the Baltimore Ravens on Thanksgiving. However, they lost to the Bills last week, potentially ending their chances of a playoff run.
During Wednesday’s press conference, the quarterback expressed his frustration and made some alarming comments that have caught the interest of everyone in the NFL.
“If I want to keep doing this, then what am I trying to do with myself?” Burrow said. “And I have fun doing it. You know, it’s not fun, then what am I doing it for? So, that’s the mindset.
“Do I have fun playing? I mean, how much? Winning’s always fun, but in general, was it fun as before? No, I wouldn’t say it was that way.”
This season, Burrow has recorded 734 yards and eight TDs passing in four games. The Bengals are third in the AFC North with a 4-9 record.
Emmanuel Acho hints at possible retirement for Joe Burrow
On Thursday’s episode of “Speakeasy,” ex-NFL star turned analyst Emmanuel Acho expressed concerns regarding Joe Burrow’s mental health after his concerning press conference comments.
He said that the Bengals quarterback could likely “pull an Andrew Luck.” Luck retired at the age of 29 in 2019 because of injuries and mental fatigue.
“I think Joe Burrow’s spirits are broken, and rightfully so, he’s human,” Acho said. “You know how hard it is to play the game of football when you know you can’t make the playoffs, given how talented you are as an individual.
“I think his spirit is broken. … Joe Burrow’s last three years: hurt, missed the playoffs, All-Pro level, missed the playoffs, hurt, missed the playoffs. It’s tough on your spirits bro, so I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw Burrow pulling an Andrew Luck.”
The Bengals are next scheduled to face the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
