Justin Thomas, who had to step away from The Skins Game due to surgery following a nagging hip pain issue, has made a massive donation to the University of Alabama.

Thomas was scheduled to compete against Tommy Fleetwood, Xander Schauffele, and Keegan Bradley in this year’s The Skins Game. However, he was replaced by Shane Lowry after he underwent a microdiscectomy. The two-time PGA Championship winner also missed the Hero World Challenge in December.

While recovering after surgery, Justin Thomas has donated $1 million to the University of Alabama’s golf programs and facilities. NUCLR GOLF shared the update on X and wrote in the caption:

Thomas is a former student of the University of Alabama, where he was a prominent athlete for the Crimson Tide. The PGA Tour pro won the Jack Nicklaus Player of the Year award, the Phil Mickelson Freshman of the Year award, and also bagged the Haskins Award for his performance during his university days.

Justin Thomas has spoken fondly about the University of Alabama in the past, stating that his time there was awesome. In the wake of his recent donation, he did not hesitate to express his feelings about his alma mater.

After his contribution to the Crimson Reserve, the University of Alabama alumni shared his feelings, stating his love for the place. In his statement, the two-time major champion further shared his experience of playing under Coach Jay Seawell.

Justin Thomas said in the press release (quotes taken via Alabama Athletics):

“It’s hard to put into words the love and feelings I have for The University of Alabama. I was so lucky to be able to spend two incredible years playing under Coach Seawell. He and his wife, Stephanie, were, and still are, like family to me.

“This dream of making the Crimson Reserve couldn’t be done without Coach Seawell and Coach Potter and what they’ve done with the programs. I’m honored to have a very small part in it.”

Thomas has shared his love for the University of Alabama on other occasions as well. Back in October 2025, the golfer visited the university’s campus and the new golf facility. In an Instagram post, he shared moments from his visit and labeled his alma mater as his “happy place.”
