Anthony Kim appears focused on making a return to LIV Golf. After losing his spot on the Saudi-backed league earlier this year, the former PGA Tour winner is now turning his attention to the LIV Golf Promotions event, scheduled for January 8 to 11, 2026, at Black Diamond Ranch in Florida. The event offers players a chance to earn limited spots back on the league.
Kim spent the last two seasons as a wild card on LIV Golf but was relegated in August after failing to secure enough points. With no direct path through the International Series standings, the Promotions event is now his clearest route to rejoining the league.
On Saturday, December 20, Kim shared a carousel on Instagram showing him practicing swings and drills on the course. He captioned the post,
“Still working on the setup & fundamentals but headed in the right direction. Wat ur swing looks like doesn’t really matter as long as u can repeat the same move. The last swing checks the boxes for the things i have been working on now for 2 years. Gotta keep workin👊”
Kim’s recent form shows signs of progress. He made four of five cuts on the Asian Tour and tied for fifth at the PIF Saudi International with rounds of 67, 65, 69 and 70, marking his first top 10 finish in several years.
Despite that, he remains outside the top of the International Series standings. Former LIV player Scott Vincent leads the rankings, followed by Japan’s Yosuke Asaji, with Miguel Tabuena, Lucas Herbert and Ollie Schniederjans also ahead. Only the top two players earn direct LIV cards while the top 40 qualify for the Promotions event.
At the latest International Series event, seven current or former LIV players finished tied sixth or better, including Thomas Pieters, Tyrrell Hatton, Josele Ballester and Anthony Kim himself.
Anthony Kim outlines possible plans after LIV Golf relegation
Anthony Kim returned to competitive golf in 2024 after a 12-year break. Last month, he spoke about his intentions moving forward, making it clear that he plans to continue playing professionally regardless of the outcome at the LIV Golf Promotions event.
Even after losing his LIV Golf spot, Kim had some notable performances this year, including a tied 25 at LIV Golf Dallas, a tied 29 at LIV Golf Miami and a tied 43 at the Moutai Singapore Open.
During the Singapore Open, Kim stressed his commitment to improving and letting results speak for themselves.
“This is something I am looking forward to and yes, regardless, I am going to play for a few more years,” he said. (via Golf Monthly)
“I do not know how long I want to play golf for, but this is something I am committed to. I am motivated to play as good as I can, work as hard as I can, and the results will speak for themselves.”
Anthony Kim also said the Asian Tour will likely form a big part of his schedule next year but he plans to carefully choose events to balance competitive golf with spending time with his family.
