Damien Woody had strong words for the New York Jets after they scrapped a loyal supporter’s halftime field goal attempt. The former lineman blasted the franchise on X for blocking Ashley Castanio-Gervasi from competing in their contest.

Woody won two Super Bowl championships during his NFL career with the Patriots. He also played his final two seasons with the New York Jets. The ESPN analyst now covers football and frequently weighs in on league news.

Damien Woody addressed news about the Jets canceling Castanio-Gervasi’s participation with a tweet on Friday.

“This is a bad look for an organization that should be looking for any positive PR,” Woody tweeted.

The franchise told Castanio-Gervasi she couldn’t take the field on Sunday because she coaches high school girls’ soccer. Gang Green waited until Monday to reveal this restriction, months after recruiting her for the competition and watching her advance through qualifying rounds.

The high school soccer players came to see her kick

Ashley Castanio-Gervasi caught the team’s attention in September when workers saw her kicking outside MetLife Stadium. Two Jets employees chased her down at a tailgate party and asked her to enter their competition.

“These two workers for the New York Jets kind of chased me down and invited me back to get into this competition,” she said, according to NY Post. “The one question I was asked was if I played college soccer, and how long ago.”

Castanio-Gervasi advanced to the championship round after successfully converting from 20 yards out in October. Her mom and three sisters bought tickets for this Sunday’s showdown against the Patriots. Roughly 15 relatives secured seats to witness the moment.

The educator received a phone call last week about signing paperwork. Staff members suddenly introduced language about coaches being banned from participation. Castanio-Gervasi keeps her father Frank’s memory alive by attending every home game.
