Why Rocco Mediate said he ‘can’t wait’ for Tiger Woods to join the PGA Tour Champions

Tiger Woods playing on the PGA Tour Champions remains something a number of players and fans want to see happen at some point.

With Woods turning 50 this week, he will become eligible to play on the senior tour if he wishes.

Woods, of course, will need to overcome his latest injury problems and from there, decide if he is up to the task of competing at a high level once again.

How many wins do you think 2000’s Tiger Woods would have if playing in 2025?

And how would it impact Scottie Scheffler’s incredible year?

Still, while Woods has yet to confirm either way, one of the current players on the senior tour, Rocco Mediate, has previously made his feelings more than clear.

Rocco Mediate’s comments on Tiger Woods playing senior tour golf

There are different opinions across the game on whether Woods should carry on beyond 50.

The likes of Padraig Harrington and Bernhard Langer have found new life on the senior tour but other current players, like Rory McIlroy, insist they won’t play into their later years.

However, speaking on Woods’ potential move into the Champions Tour ranks, good friend and former competitor on the PGA Tour, Rocco Mediate, is sure Woods should make the move.

“I can’t wait,” Mediate said back in 2024.

“What else are you gonna do? That’d be the only thing I’d say to him. If he’s healthy, he can still compete on the regular tour as long as he wants. But if he’s not, he can ride around in a cart out here, which he’ll do because it’s OK out here…and it’s competition, and it’s another era to break all the records.

“It’d be great to have him back, and he’ll have a ball. It’s all his buddies. It’s all his friends.”

Tiger Woods needs to be fit to play the Tour Champions

While it would be great to see Woods playing beyond 50 and competing for titles again, it can only happen if he is fit to play golf.

The Masters in 2024 saw Woods card his highest ever score in a major and nobody wants to see that version of Tiger.

How many majors would Tiger Woods have won without his injuries?

Still, if he can get right and get back to playing in some way, then the Champions Tour does offer differences that would make playing easier for Woods.

Right now, though, he simply has to get fit. That is the only priority.
