New York GC took more time per shot compared to Atlanta Drive GC in the TGL Season 2 opening game. The second season of Tiger Woods’ and Rory McIlroy’s tech-infused series started on Sunday. In the opening game, the defending champions were pretty impressive with their game and registered a win.
On Monday, TGL shared an interesting stat about the game on its X (formerly Twitter) account. They shared a post about the time taken by both teams to take a shot, noting that New York GC took five seconds longer per shot compared to Atlanta Drive. They wrote:

The TGL matchups take place in a triple-and-singles format. The teams initially play in a triple format on the first nine holes and then in a singles format on the remaining six holes.
New York GC won one point in the triples format and three in singles, while Atlanta Drive won three in triples and three in singles to win the game. For Atlanta Drive, Billy Horschel had a phenomenal outing and helped his team win the game.
Atlanta Drive’s Billy Horschel opens up about the team’s win in TGL season game

Atlanta Drive GC and New York GC were tied for the lead after playing 14 holes. On the final 15th hole, Billy Horschel helped his team win the game with an impressive 37-footer eagle. He played in singles against Xander Schauffele.
Following the game, Horschel opened up about his victory. He said (via SI):
“I’ve hit a couple putts tonight that I thought were in, came up just short. I just said, ‘make sure I hit it hard enough. [Teammate Chris Gotterup] and I looked at the putt. We both agreed with the way we thought it was breaking. About five feet out, it looked really good. I just hoped that it had enough speed to get there, and it went in. Obviously, very reminiscent to last season, that big putt we made to win the match.”
Schauffele also talked about Horschel’s game. He said:
“Once I saw Billy’s ball tracking, he almost made a 50-footer earlier, like a few holes before on the par-3. The guy is really good at this stuff. Kudos to him. That was a hell of a putt.”
Atlanta Drive GC team player Justin Thomas has been away from the game as he has been recovering from surgery.
Patrick Cantlay and Lucas Glover also withdrew from the event. This week, Corey Conners and Chris Gotterup replaced Glover and Cantlay.
Next in the TGL, Boston Common GC will play against Los Angeles GC on Friday, January 2, followed by a game between The Bay GC and Atlanta Drive GC on January 16.
