Jonathan Taylor was candid about the Indianapolis Colts’ capitulation in the second half of the season following the 23-17 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. The Colts started the season with an 8-2 record, but losing the last six games has seen their hopes go down the drain.
The loss to the Jaguars on Sunday officially pulled the Colts out of playoff contention, marking the fifth straight season of no postseason participation for the team. In his locker room interview after Sunday’s game, Taylor offered his honest view on the way the season turned out.
“Obviously, when you lose 5, 6 in a row, you start looking like, ‘Hey, okay, we have to be better,’” Taylor said. “Those good teams don’t lose 5, 6 in a row. And then, you look and you’re fighting. Like I said, it’s a silver lining, it’s hard to win in this league and it’s a small margin of error.
“So, regardless of penalties and things like that, you just think about actual plays, like making a play, making a catch, getting the first down, it’s those 1 or 2, 3 or 4 plays that those great teams make. They find a way … and I think that’s the difference, that’s been a difference.”

The Colts did look destined for something big the way they started the 2025 season. Quarterback Daniel Jones, who was acquired as a free agent, became a new version of himself while Jonathan Taylor was making plays. However, the team eventually failed to live up to the lofty expectations.
Jonathan Taylor describes what played a role in the Colts’ fall, aside from injuries
Injuries to notable players like Daniel Jones were one of the crucial factors that led to the capitulation of the Indianapolis Colts after a fantastic start to the season. However, Jonathan Taylor pointed to one other thing that was missing in the team, playing a role in the drastic fall.
“Injuries definitely play a huge part,” Taylor said. “But then also, like I said, you look at some of those great teams. They find a way to win through adversity. If you’ve had teams who’ve won with multiple guys down, and that’s just other guys stepping up.
“Also, leaders as well, stepping up and like I said, making those plays, finding a way to just make one more play … And it’s tough. It’s definitely tough in the NFL. And that’s why it’s the highest level because it demands a lot. But that’s what we’re all striving for, to be those great, those elite teams.”
The Colts showed huge ambition this season under the leadership of Charlie Irsay-Gordon with a host of urgent and purposeful moves. While things didn’t work out as expected this season, the franchise obviously looks set to compete in the coming years, and players like Jonathan Taylor will be crucial to that.
