“I’m not chasing accolades”: Trevon Diggs makes feelings known on getting fresh start away from Jerry Jones’ Cowboys

Trevon Diggs is beginning a new chapter in his career, and he has shared his thoughts about it.

On Wednesday, a day after he was released by the Dallas Cowboys, the two-time Pro Bowl cornerback was claimed off waivers by the Green Bay Packers. On Thursday, during his first practice with the Pack, he said that he still felt “like I’m the best” and just had to be himself on the field:

“I’m not chasing accolades. I’m not chasing anything. I’m chasing being a better me, being better every day … helping this team win.”

He continued:

“It feels good. I want to be comfortable with being uncomfortable being somewhere that I’ve never been before. Just starting over, starting fresh, a clean slate, and just working, and keeping my head down.”

The move reunited Diggs with fellow ex-Cowboy Micah Parsons, who is out for the season after tearing his ACL during a 34-26 at the Denver Broncos last month. He recalled a conversation that they had:

“It’s a lot different. He said I’m going to like it a lot and I’m going to enjoy it. So far, I’ve been enjoying it a lot. My first day was out there today, and I had a lot of fun.”

Cowboys' Trevon Diggs just shut down the criticism with one perfect response

Xavier McKinney shares excitement at reuniting with Trevon Diggs

Micah Parsons is not the only person Trevon Diggs will be reuniting with on the shores of Lake Michigan, however.

He will also be playing alongside safety Xavier McKinney, who shared the backfield with him when they were in college at Alabama. Together, they led the Crimson Tide to the national title in 2017 and were named to the All-SEC first team in 2019.

Both were also second-round picks for NFC East teams in 2020 – McKinney went to the New York Giants at No. 36, and Diggs followed him 15 picks later with the Cowboys.

And McKinney believes Diggs will help the Packers “tremendously” when it comes to interceptions, as he put it on Thursday:

“He can get the ball, and I think that’s one thing that we’re missing, obviously, is getting the ball at a high rate. And I think he can be the guy that comes in and really helps us with that.”

The 9-6-1 Packers end their season at the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. Kickoff is at 12 pm CT on CBS.
