“They’re doing great job of tanking”: Boomer Esiason reveals why Jets will not fire Aaron Glenn despite disastrous 2025 season

Boomer Esiason reveals why Jets will not fire Aaron Glenn despite disastrous 2025 season

The New York Jets hired Aaron Glenn as the new coach ahead of the 2025 season. However, things have not gone according to their expectations. The Jets are dead last in the AFC East with a 3-13 record and a four-game losing skid.

This has raised questions about Aaron Glenn’s future with the franchise. However, according to Boomer Esiason, the team will not fire him after just one season. On Friday’s episode of WFAN Sports Radio, he shared a few reasons to justify his reasoning.

“I’m just telling you, he is not going to get fired,” Esiason said. “He is just not going to get fired. Woody Johnson is not going to fire him. And I don’t care what you say as a fan, you can call me up and you can give me all the reasons why he should be fired, and I can’t argue with those.

“And here’s why I don’t believe that Woody Johnson will fire Aaron Glenn. Number one, he’s got a five year contract. So that means that they would have to fire him and pay him for four more years. And he’s not gonna do that. … He may do it next year. He’s not gonna do it this year and then pay another coach on top of it.

“Number two, in the middle of the season, Darren Mougey, I’m sure, along with Woody Johnson and all the scouts and the coach, probably sat down and said, look, we’re not going anywhere this year. Justin Fields has been an absolute disaster. And we can get assets moving forward and we’re gonn

Last week, the Jets suffered a 42-10 loss at the hands of the AFC East winner, the New England Patriots. Aaron Glenn and his team brought in Justin Fields as their QB1 this season. However, he has been underwhelming on the offense, recording 1,259 yards and seven touchdowns passing in nine games before being benched for backup Tyrod Taylor.

Aaron Glenn shares his thoughts on the Jets’ disappointing 2025 season

During Friday’s press conference ahead of their Week 18 game, Glenn expressed his disappointment with the way his debut campaign played out.

He said that things did not go according to plan, but they are looking to learn from these mistakes and prepare for the upcoming season.

“So I really go back and start to really look at this whole season,” Glenn said. “Not doing a deep dive into self-reflection just yet, but just start to look at myself, this team, you know, why am I here, and the expectations that we all had before.

“This has not been the season that we all wanted. I understand that. But I tell you, there’s some things that I really like about what we did. There’s some things that we know we have to fix. But I’m excited about going into this game, starting this game, and then moving on from this game, going into the offseason.”

The Jets will face the Buffalo Bills on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET. Can they end the season by ending their four-game losing streak?
