With the start of the new PGA Tour season looming, plenty of fans will be making some wild and wonderful predictions for what they are going to see over the coming months.
Everyone is waiting to see where Brooks Koepka will play his golf in 2026. Many want Tiger Woods to tee it up on several occasions over the campaign. And some will be tipping Scottie Scheffler to complete the Career Grand Slam at the US Open.

A lot of the stranger predictions will not come close to being on the money. But perhaps most should take note of what Justin Thomas expects to happen this year.
That is because it is nearly 10 years since Thomas made an ‘out there’ prediction which proved to be accurate within a matter of months.

Thomas has certainly not been short of confidence throughout his career. In fact, during an interview with Golf Digest in March 2016, he claimed that he could see a player from this era overtaking Jack Nicklaus‘ tally of major wins.
He also backed someone to put themselves alongside Tiger Woods and Sam Snead for PGA Tour wins.
Obviously, neither of those look likely as things stand. However, he added another prediction which was spot on“I don’t think Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 majors is unbeatable at all,” he said. “Someone—maybe one of the guys in the group I’m playing with now—can do it. It would take a couple of huge years in which you won two or three majors. But if someone did that, it would just be a matter of picking them off over the course of a long career.
“Even more gettable is someone winning 70 to 80 tournaments over a career.
“And if you really want to take it out there, I’ll bet someone on the PGA Tour shoots 58 sometime in the next five years.”

Of course, it would be less than five months before Jim Furyk managed to make history with his 58 at the Travelers Championship.

Remarkably, Furyk made par on five of his last six holes on his way to posting the lowest score in PGA Tour history.
He would also not actually win that week. But he did become the first player to break 60 on the PGA Tour, having also shot 59 at the BMW Championship in 2013.
