Tiger Woods might have been out of competition for a long period, but it did not stop him from attending his son Charlie Woods’ game. Charlie is currently competing at the 62nd Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship, which began on Saturday at the Biltmore Golf Course.
On day one of the tournament, the 16-year-old amateur golfer faced an unexpected situation while the 82x PGA Tour winner was in attendance.
While playing on Hole 11, Tiger Woods’ son landed his shot below a tree, and the ball ended up hitting a root while trying to clear it. Charlie was almost hit by the ball, but the golfer kept his cool and ultimately scored a par on that hole. As the audience praised his efforts, the 15-time Major Champ had four words for his son afterwards. Woods said, via The Palm Beach Post:
“Hell of a shot”
Apart from Tiger Woods’ attendance at his son’s game, it is worth noting that the Cypress native has a history with the tournament. In 1991, the then-16-year-old Woods won the boys’ title at the Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship.
Although Woods has praised Charlie’s efforts recently, it is not the first time the former World No. 1 has done it. In the past, Woods has openly complimented the young golfer over the latter’s skills and composure.
When Tiger Woods praised his son Charlie Woods after their PNC Championship outing
In 2024, Tiger Woods played at the PNC Championship alongside his son, Charlie. While the duo missed out on winning to Bernhard Langer and his son Jason, Tiger seemed to have confidence in his son’s efforts.
When he was asked by the media about Charlie’s performance, Tiger praised the then-15-year-old for his progress and commitment to the sport. Woods stated:
“He’s gotten better at every facet of the game. That’s a commitment to practicing and developing as a player.
“I think that most of us forget he’s only 15 years old. I know he’s been doing this in front of the media for a long time. But being only 15, I think it’s incredible what he’s been able to accomplish so far, and the ceiling that he has is unlimited.”

Apart from showering praise on his son in the press conference, Tiger Woods was visibly proud of Charlie during a moment in the tournament. In the 2024 PNC Championship, the young golfer scored his first hole-in-one and was in disbelief as the feat was announced. Woods greeted his son with a smile and celebrated Charlie’s achievement with an embrace on the greens.
