The New York Giants finished the 2025 season with a dismal 4-13 record. Now, they are about to start their offseason in scandalous fashion.

On Monday, Russell Wilson revealed to reporters that he played through a hamstring injury in Week 2 at the Dallas Cowboys:

“I tore my hamstring on Friday in practice — the last play of practice. And I had a grade two [tear]. I couldn’t tell anybody. I had to go and play on it just because I knew the circumstance. I actually ended up going to the Dallas Mavericks’ facility, training. And, you know, kept it quiet, just trying to get treatment on it.”

In the wake of the revelation, Pro Football Talk, NBC’s NFL vertical, reported that the league office would be investigating the matter:

Russell Wilson has a parting gift for the Giants, in the form of an inevitable NFL investigation regarding an undisclosed Grade 2 hamstring tear he says he suffered on the last play of practice before the Week 2 game at Dallas.

It will not be the first time the Giants have been investigated for mishandling player injuries. Head coach Brian Daboll and running back Cam Skattebo were fined for violating concussion protocol after they entered the medical tent where Jaxson Dart was being evaluated during a 34-17 Week 6 win against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Russell Wilson defends Giants amidst reports of impending investigation into concealment of hamstring injury

Nearly two hours after the news broke, Russell Wilson turned around and defended the Giants’ decision not to disclose his injury. He wrote on his social media:

“Not the @Giants fault! They didn’t know bc I didn’t want to tell anyone bc of the circumstances. I just had to play through it to try and go ball that day! Thought we were going to Win that wild crazy game!”

In six games played in 2025, Wilson threw for 831 yards and three touchdowns against as many interceptions. He lasted three starts before being benched for Jaxson Dart, then was demoted to third-string behind Jameis Winston after Week 10.
