The LIV Golf Promotions event is set to tee off on Thursday, January 8 at the Black Diamond Ranch in Lecanto, Florida. The four-day event’s initial field featured 83 players competing for three full-time spots on the 2026 LIV Golf League. According to reports, the event is now facing possible WDs from several players.
For the unversed, the promotions event is LIV Golf’s equivalent of the Q-School. It is noteworthy that the previous two versions of the event were not considered unauthorized events by the PGA Tour. The American circuit had released a statement dubbing it “a qualifying event only and not a part of an unauthorized series.” However, it had further clarified that this classification is “subject to change should the details of the event change.”
A year later, the PGA Tour is reportedly banning players linked to the promotions events. According to a Sports Illustrated report, any player with status under the PGA Tour umbrella would not be granted a conflicting event release and they would be subject to disciplinary action if they partook in the contest. The PGA Tour’s player handbook states that players won’t be ‘approved for conflicting event releases in North America.’
It is pertinent to note that LIV-linked players without any PGA Tour status would still receive one-year bans from the American series sanctioned events including 2026 Q-School. Currently, at least one player has withdrawn ahead of the $1.5 million prize pursed 72-hole stroke-play event’s start.
