“Shedeur Sanders should not be on this team”: NFL analyst labels Deion Sanders’ son ‘hindrance’ for Browns complicating head coach search

Shedeur Sanders hasn’t guaranteed anything with his rookie year performance. After starting the 2025 season as the third-string quarterback, he climbed up the ladder to become the starter in the last seven games, but many feel he’s not locked in as the starter heading into 2026.

With the debate about his future at the Cleveland Browns spinning around the air, Jason Lloyd believes Deion Sanders’ son shouldn’t be on the team next season. Speaking on “The Ken Carnan Show with Anthony Lima” on Tuesday, the analyst noted the quarterback will be a hindrance to the team.

“”I said all along, I think Shedeur’s presence will be a hindrance … I’ve been pretty adamant he shouldn’t be on this team,” Lloyd said. “To me, Shedeur should not be on this team next year. He’s not good enough to be the starter, and this organization is not stable and mature enough to have him as a backup. They’ve proven that.

“So what, are you going to draft another quarterback and put him atop Shedeur and then all the stuff comes back again about Shedeur, when you’re going to play Shedeur. Like no thanks, hard pass. And I just think a lot of coaches are going to do it.”

With Deshaun Watson set to return to action next season, it remains unclear whether Shedeur Sanders will retain the starting quarterback job. However, the idea of him not being on the Browns’ roster is far-fetched for now.

Jason Lloyd thinks many coaches won’t be open to the Browns job because of Shedeur Sanders

Kevin Stefanski faced a lot of media scrutiny when Shedeur Sanders wasn’t the starting quarterback. That didn’t stop when he eventually earned the job. Jason Lloyd believes not many coaches will be open to that amount of distraction while trying to do their job.

“Somebody’s gonna take the job,” Lloyd said. “They pay really well. There are only 32 of the jobs. But there are candidates out there who will look at this and say, ‘Nope, I want nothing to do with that.’

“How could you look at everything that Kevin went through over the last year with Shedeur and some of the stupidity and nonsense that was out there. What coach would want to sign up for that? Particularly when he didn’t play that well, he wasn’t that good.”

A host of names have been linked to the Browns’ head coaching vacancy since Kevin Stefanski was fired on Monday. These include Brian Flores, Mike McCarthy, Kliff Kingsbury, and a host of others. It remains to be seen what decision the next coach will make about Shedeur Sanders.
