Something incredible just happened when Scottie Scheffler tried the new TaylorMade Qi4D driver

Scottie Scheffler is far and away the best golfer on the planet right now and he has been for quite some time as well.

Scheffler has been the dominant force in world golf since he won his first PGA Tour event way back in February 2022.

Since then, he has gone on to record 19 PGA Tour wins including four major championships and he has been ranked as the world’s number one player for 138 weeks consecutively, 173 in total.

Scheffler will be back in PGA Tour action in two weeks’ time at the American Express.

Who will win more on the PGA Tour in 2026 out of Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood?

Will anyone end 2026 with more PGA Tour wins than Scottie?

And many are expecting the 29-year-old to continue his dominance.

Smylie Kaufman has predicted that Scheffler will win a minimum of six PGA Tour tournaments in 2026.

That will take quite some effort but if anyone can do it, it’s Scottie! Now it seems like he has already taken strides to become an even better player!

What happened when Scottie Scheffler first tried the TaylorMade Qi4D driver

TaylorMade have just released a brand new driver – the exciting Qi4D model.

The new club has an array of exciting new features, with technological advances meaning that it should be able to help improve the way that golfers drive the ball without changing their swings.

And it seems as though that was the case with Scottie Scheffler.

Something remarkable happened when Scheffler tested the new Qi4D model driver.

He gained a fair bit of ball speed and carry, and they were not just ‘marginal gains’ either.

A 3.3 mph gain in ball speed is quite something.

That will equate to around six extra yards of carry for Scheffler, if he manages to maintain those speed gains.

However, there could be one big problem lying in wait for the current world number one.

Could Scottie Scheffler 2.0 be even better?

There is a proven correlation between faster ball speeds when driving the ball and reduced control with irons.

Scheffler was around the 177 mph ball speed mark in 2025 and was ranked number one in strokes gained approach.

The winners of the four majors in 2026 will be…

However, only two players who averaged 180 mph ball speed or higher during the 2025 season were ranked inside the top 30 for strokes gained approach – Nicolai Hojgaard and Xander Schauffele.

If Scheffler does get his average ball speed up to 180 mph, it will be fascinating to see whether he maintains his current levels of control with his irons.

Scheffler will clearly have to strike a balance moving forward, if he is to continue his dominant run in professional golf.

However, it seems like the real beauty of the new TaylorMade Qi4D driver is that Scheffler hasn’t changed his swing in order to gain the extra yardage.

In other words, he won’t be compromising his other strengths by adding distance to his tee shots and that is a really scary thought for his rivals.
