“I didn’t have as good a relationship”: Ravens OC Todd Monken reveals cold truth about Lamar Jackson after John Harbaugh’s firing

Lamar Jackson’s Baltimore Ravens are searching for a new head coach after they fired John Harbaugh, following 18 years of partnership. The AFC North franchise remains a strong unit in the NFL, but the front office wants to make changes in the offseason.

Offensive coordinator Todd Monken is no longer with the team as part of the move. The Ravens’ offense was one of the best in the league in 2023 and 2024, but it looked stagnant during 2025. Monken opened up on what he could have done differently to make the offense a more dangerous unit during an appearance on “The Ryan Ripken Show” on Thursday.

More specifically, he talked about his relationship with Jackson.

“I didn’t coach Lamar well enough,” Monken said. “I didn’t have as good of a relationship as I could have. I didn’t do the things we needed to do this year to win enough games to give ourselves a chance. I believe that.

“Lamar and I, to me, had a good relationship. Could it have been better? Of course. Lamar and I never had an issue. I don’t know where that comes from.”

The Ravens ranked 28th in passing yards (3,278) and 21st in passing touchdowns (23) in 2025. Jackson missed multiple games due to a hamstring injury he suffered against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 4. The running game was a more positive story, as they ranked second in total rushing yards (2,662) and third in rushing touchdowns (23).

Todd Monken sets record straight on Lamar Jackson-John Harbaugh relationship

While they tried to challenge for the Super Bowl, Lamar Jackson and John Harbaugh were mentioned in rumors claiming they didn’t have a good relationship. Todd Monken touched on those reports, too, denying that there was a rift between the coach and the quarterback.

“I never saw Lamar and coach Harbaugh not have a great relationship. I never saw coach Harbaugh and any of our players not have a great relationship. Never. Not one time. So any of that would be news to me.”

The Ravens have work to do to put Jackson in the best position to succeed. Another season missing the playoffs would be a total failure.
