The New York Giants are reportedly finalizing the deal that would make John Harbaugh their new head coach for the next five years. While there are details to work on, the “Big Blue” appears to have pretty much everything done to sign Harbaugh.
The Giants had Harbaugh over for his first head-coaching interview post-Ravens firing, and they didn’t want him to leave the building without a contract. Having Harbaugh on the sideline should elevate the Giants’ level, but ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith doesn’t think John Harbaugh will make them NFC East champions in 2026.
“Oh, please hell no, to win the division. Aren’t the Eagles in the division? Last year, wasn’t the Commanders and the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship game? Didn’t the Dallas Cowboys have one of the most high-powered offenses in football this past season? I don’t expect the giants to do that, to leapfrog into winning the division in year one.
“With Harbaugh’s arrival, you expect improvement. You expect them to compete potentially for a playoff spot, wild card, I’m thinking, but I don’t expect them to win a division at all. No, not at all. I don’t think they have the personnel to be able to pull it off.”

Harbaugh joined the Ravens in 2008. He posted a 180-113 record over 18 years, including five 12-win seasons and a Super Bowl championship.
Giants still working on details on John Harbaugh’s contract
NFL insider Adam Schefter reported on Friday that John Harbaugh and the Giants are working through details of the contract. Schefter said that money isn’t the problem; language is. Both parties continue working to get it done as soon as possible.
Following an 18-year stint with the Baltimore Ravens, the AFC North fired the veteran coach. They couldn’t advance to the 2025 NFL playoffs after rookie kicker Tyler Loop made a potential game-winning field goal in the final seconds of the Week 18 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Harbaugh’s imminent signing was celebrated across the Giants fanbase, but things aren’t official just yet.
