John Harbaugh is officially the new head coach of the New York Giants. 11 days after the Baltimore Ravens fired him, following an 18-year partnership, the veteran joined the NFC East after just one interview.

Harbaugh and the Giants continued to work on contract details after multiple reports suggested he had agreed to lead the “Big Blue” after they fired Brian Daboll mid-season.

ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported on Saturday that Harbaugh agreed to the deal and expressed his first words as the Giants’ new head coach.

“This is the New York Giants,” Harbaugh told ESPN. “I’m proud and honored to the head coach of this historic franchise, and especially excited to work with the Mara and Tisch families. But most of all, I can’t wait to get started with the great players on this football team to see what we can accomplish together.”

Harbaugh coached the Ravens since 2008. He posted a 180-113 record in Baltimore, including five 12-win seasons. He won the Super Bowl in 2012 and was named the Coach of the Year in 2019, when the Ravens posted a 14-2 regular-season record.Stephen A. Smith doesn’t think John Harbaugh’s Giants will win NFC East in 2026

Veteran analyst Stephen A. Smith hit the brakes on the expectations surrounding the New York Giants under John Harbaugh. The ESPN personality noted that the competition has been hard in recent years and the Giants won’t win the division right away.

“Oh, please hell no, to win the division. Aren’t the Eagles in the division? Last year, wasn’t the Commanders and the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship game? Didn’t the Dallas Cowboys have one of the most high-powered offenses in football this past season? I don’t expect the giants to do that, to leapfrog into winning the division in year one.

“With Harbaugh’s arrival, you expect improvement. You expect them to compete potentially for a playoff spot, wild card, I’m thinking, but I don’t expect them to win a division at all. No, not at all. I don’t think they have the personnel to be able to pull it off.”

The Giants put up a good fight against the Cowboys and Eagles in 2025, but that might not be enough to win the division.
