Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers crashed out of the playoffs with a 30-6 loss to the Houston Texans in the wild-card round on Monday. Rodgers, who finished his first season with the Steelers, is set to become a free agent in the coming offseason.
However, it appears that Rodgers, 42, will not return to the Steelers for the 2026 season, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. On Saturday, just four days after Mike Tomlin stepped down as Steelers coach, Rapoport reported that we’ve “seen the last” of Rodgers in Pittsburgh.
However, it still isn’t clear whether Rodgers is retiring.

Rodgers was a free agent in the 2025 offseason after the New York Jets released him. There was uncertainty about whether the veteran QB would return to the league, and Rodgers kept the Steelers waiting until June to sign his one-year, $13.6 million contract.
In his lone season with Pittsburgh, Rodgers helped the team win the AFC North. However, he couldn’t guide the team past the wild-card round.
Rodgers played 18 years with the Green Bay Packers, helping them win the Super Bowl in 2011. He also played two years with the Jets before playing his 21st year in the league with the Steelers.
How did Aaron Rodgers fare in the 2025 season with the Steelers?

Aaron Rodgers had a mixed bag of performances with the Steelers in the 2025 season. In the regular season, the QB completed 327 of 498 passes for 3,322 yards with 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also added 61 yards and a TD on 21 carries.
In the wild-card round against the Texans, Rodgers struggled to find his rhythm. He went 17 of 33 for 146 yards with an interception, and was sacked four times.
Rodgers, a four-time MVP, often hinted that the 2025 season could be his last in the NFL. However, the QB has yet to address his future in the league as he enters the twilight of his career.
