Scottie Scheffler will get his 2026 PGA Tour season underway at The American Express this week.
All eyes will be on Scottie Scheffler at La Quinta. The world number one will be looking to pick up where he left off in 2025.
Who do you think will win The American Express?
Will anyone be able to stop Scottie Scheffler at La Quinta?
Scheffler won six times last year, including two majors. Should he win the US Open, the 29-year-old will complete the Career Grand Slam.
It truly feels as though the only question mark hanging over Scheffler at this stage concerns just how long he can continue to play at this level.
Taylor Zarzour makes a prediction about Scottie Scheffler’s 2026 season
He has been the game’s most dominant performer since Tiger Woods was at his peak. So it should really come as no surprise if he is unable to remain at that level in 2026.
But many are expecting him to come very close.
Taylor Zarzour was asked on 5 Clubs whether he believes that Scheffler will secure four wins and a major over the next 12 months. And his response was emphatic.
“I think he’s going to win this week at The American Express. I don’t know how you could pick against him with how much talent he possesses. His mind is so sharp on every single shot. It’s going to be a great field this week for The American Express, so I’m excited to see the competition that Scottie is going to have.
“I expect him to win five-plus times and at least win one major championship in 2026. I think we’re watching one of the five to 10 best male golfers of all-time right now in the middle of his prime, and I think everybody should sit back and enjoy it.
“I really hope that a Xander Schauffele or a Rory McIlroy, or someone we’re not thinking about, emerges this year and really fights it out with Scottie throughout the entire season. That would make it a lot of fun.”
Scheffler has early reason to think his 2026 season could be even better
What should probably worry the likes of Schauffele and McIlroy is the fact that Scheffler appears to be ready to hit the ground running – unlike 2025.
Scheffler, of course, injured his hand ahead of the start of last season. That limited the practice he could do, and he did not play until Pebble Beach. He looked somewhat rusty until The CJ CUP Byron Nelson in May.
How many majors do you think Scottie Scheffler will win during his career?
The world number one already has four majors under his belt
The Sentry being cancelled this year will have impacted his schedule once again. However, he will have been able to get the reps in on the practice ground since the Hero World Challenge.
It will be extremely concerning for the PGA Tour if he goes on to contend at The American Express.
