LIV golfer Lee Westwood asked the DP World Tour to hear Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton’s appeal. The European Tour has imposed fines on the players who joined the breakaway series. However, Rahm and Hatton appealed against it.
This week, ahead of the 2026 Hero Dubai Desert Classic, Rory McIlroy opened up about Rahm and Hatton and said that the duo should pay $6 million in fines to play in the Ryder Cup event in 2027.
Flushing it shared McIlroy commented on its X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday. Golf fan Rob Brooks shared his opinion about the McIlroy comment by resharing the post on his X account with a caption:
“If the DPWT wants to self harm just to keep the PGAT sweet, knock yourselves out! It’s time LIV players just played LIV & IS events. This petty dancing around has gone on for long enough, it’s draining! 😩 These pressers only get the engagement do bcoz the questions r about LIV.”
Lee Westwood reshared it with a caption:
“The easy solution is for the @DPWorldTour to set a date for Jon and Tyrell’s appeal. Instead of the kicking of the can.”
Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton have played in a few DP World Tour events last season, along with their LIV Golf events. The English golfer is playing this week at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, which is scheduled to take place from January 22 to 25.
Jon Rahm shares his excitement for the 2026 LIV Golf
Jon Rahm is looking forward to playing on the LIV Golf in 2026. Earlier this month, Brooks Koepka returned to play on the PGA Tour, and in a press conference of the LIV Golf, held on January 13, Rahm was asked about Koepka.
In response, the Spaniard wished the best for the American golfer and also added that he is looking forward to playing in the upcoming LIV Golf season. He said (via ASPA Sports):
“I’m not planning on going anywhere. Very similar answer to what Bryson gave. I wish Brooks the best. As far as I’m concerned, I’m focused on the league and my team this year, and hopefully we can repeat as champions again.”
Jon Rahm also talked about his last season in the Saudi league. He said:
“I played fantastic. Obviously good enough to win the individual title. But still, somewhat bittersweet because I wasn’t able to close it out individually, the event win individually. Finishing the year losing two playoffs in a row is not the easiest way to go. But still very, very consistent and very, very good golf.”
Rahm had a decent season on the LIV Golf last year. He finished in the top position in the individual standings but failed to win any tournament. He was the runner-up in the Riyadh, Andalucia, Chicago, and Indianapolis events.
