Jarrett Stidham is set to start for the Denver Broncos in place of the injured Bo Nix in the AFC championship game. He will be facing his former team, the New England Patriots, on Sunday in a quest to advance as a contender for this season’s Super Bowl.
On Thursday, Broncos $15,000,000 DE John Franklin-Myers shared his thoughts on Jarrett Stidham taking over as the QB1 of the team. He was optimistic about the quarterback while taking a jab at Patriots quarterback Drake Maye in the process.
“The thing about Stiddy (Stidham), there was a few times that, you know, man he just does such a good job,” Franklin-Myers said. “He knows what he’s doing. He understand why the coach is calling a certain call. And that’s what makes him so good.
“Sometimes, you get out there, you play football, you run what’s called. You’re not understanding where you want the ball to go, how fast, when, and everything, he’s running scout-team plays and he’s running the m*****f*****g better than their quarter. He’s a good player for us and we’re excited for real.”

The Patriots had acquired Jarrett Stidham with the 133rd overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft. He spent three seasons with them as a backup option on the depth chart before a one-season stint each with the Raiders. In 2023, the quarterback joined the Broncos and so far played in seven games while tallying 496 yards and two touchdowns passing.
This season, Bo Nix has been successful in helping his team emerge as the AFC West champions and secure the No.1 seed in the conference. However, the quarterback suffered a broken ankle during their divisional-round victory over the Bills, sidelining him for the rest of the season.
Robert Griffin III shares his thoughts on the Broncos Super Bowl chances under Jarrett Stidham
Jarrett Stidham has not played even 10 games for the Denver Broncos in three years. However, despite this, Robert Griffin III is not ruling them out as Super Bowl contenders.
On Thursday’s episode of the “Outta Pocket” podcast, the retired quarterback had an optimistic take while talking about the Broncos vs Patriots AFC championship game. He also highlighted some examples from the past when backup quarterbacks led teams to Super Bowl contention.
“I really do believe Jarrett Stidham can lead them (the Broncos) to a Super Bowl,” RGIII said. “It’s not uncommon for a backup quarterback to come in and lead a team to the promised land.
“Tom Brady replaced Drew Bledsoe and they won a Super Bowl. Kurt Warner replaced Trent Green, and they won a Super Bowl with the Rams. … So God dang it Jarrett Stidham, who is one of the best backups in the NFL, can replace Bo Nix and lead the Denver Broncos to a Super Bowl.”
