The Pittsburgh Steelers are searching for a new coach after Mike Tomlin’s exit. Tomlin coached the Steelers for 19 seasons before stepping down following their loss to the Houston Texans in the wild-card round.
According to reports, they could be looking to bring someone in from the collegiate level. NFL insider Brian Baldinger reported that the Steelers are interested in Miami Hurricanes coach Mario Cristobal. He just finished his fourth season with the program, valued at $806 million (as per The Wall Street Journal), losing the national championship game to the Indiana Hoosiers.

“‘Not out here trying to play reporter or doing any of that nonsense, but I hear the Steelers are very interested in Mario Cristobal, the coach at the University of Miami,” Baldinger said on Wednesday on “The Best Football Show”.
“I think Mario Cristobal actually would really translate to the NFL. I watched his practice in the spring. The way that Mario coached that team reminded me of what old-school coaches used to do.'”
Pittsburgh hired Mike Tomlin in 2007. A year later, he led the team to Super Bowl glory, defeating the Cardinals.
The team’s last Super Bowl appearance under Tomlin was during the 2010 season, when they lost to the Packers in Super Bowl XLV. The team struggled to win playoff games since their AFC championship loss to the Patriots in 2016. In 19 seasons, Tomlin put up a 193-114 overall record.
Dan Orlovsky supports Anthony Weaver taking over as new coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers
So far this week, Pittsburgh had an in-person interview with the Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores.
According to reports, the team is now scheduled to have an in-person meeting with Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver on Friday. On Thursday, on “NFL on ESPN,” Dan Orlovsky expressed excitement about Weaver’s possibility of being Mike Tomlin’s replacement.
“Sign me up for Weaver in Pittsburgh,” Orlovsky said. “I’m a huge Weaver guy. I always see and look at coaches and say, almost like quarterbacks. You take a bad roster and make them competent. Or do you take a good roster and give us the chance to win a championship. I think we was a part of a lesser talented roster in Miami. They fought every single week and playeed at a good level.”
Anthony Weaver has been with the Dolphins since 2024. This season, under his guidance, they were the 22nd-best defense in the league, allowing an average of 348.8 yards and 50 TDs.
