Bills owner’s daughter Jessica Pegula sidesteps question aimed at Donald Trump’s administration during Australian Open media exchange

Bills owner

Buffalo Bills owner Terry Pegula has been in the news after his comments on the firing of former coach Sean McDermott, following his team’s postseason exit at the hands of the Denver Broncos over the weekend.

Amid Terry’s controversial comments, his daughter, Jessica Pegula, was asked about the ongoing controversy under President Donald Trump’s administration. However, the tennis star evaded the question during the media exchange ahead of her third-round Australian Open clash against Oksana Selekhmeteva.

“The US is a year into the second Trump admin and a lot of people are suffering,” the reporter asked.

Jessica said she doesn’t “dabble” in politics:

“I don’t like to kind of dabble too much into politics just because it’s just not the space that I really wanna say that much on…”

The reporter further asked the tennis star if she had faced any issues in Florida, to which Jessica replied:

“Florida to me at least where I live, has been fine.”

The 31-year-old has won nine titles in his career but has yet to win a grand slam. She came close to winning one when she reached the 2024 US Open singles final. Jessica also reached the doubles final of the 2022 French Open and the mixed doubles final of the 2023 US Open.

Bills owner Terry Pegula refused to “speculate” on Sean McDermott’s benchmark for 2025

Former Bills coach Sean McDermott was fired because of the team’s lack of postseason success. Although McDermott led the team to the playoffs in eight of his nine seasons with the Bills, they never made it past the AFC Championship Game.

McDermott’s 8-8 postseason record also left a lot to be desired during his tenure. However, when Bills owner Terry Pegula was asked if he would have retained McDermott for another year if they had made it past the championship game this season, he refused to “speculate.”

“I don’t want to speculate on that,” Pegula said. “It is what it is. I don’t want to speculate.”

While Pegula didn’t explain what influenced his decision, there has been speculations that Bills quarterback Josh Allen was aware of McDermott’s firing.
