PGA Tour pro Michael Kim has reacted to the impressive start of Scottie Scheffler to his new season. The American golfer kick-started his 2026 campaign at The American Express on Thursday, January 22. He teed it up at La Quinta Country Club with a birdie on the first hole.
The PGA Tour had shared a video of the former Masters winner on its X (formerly Twitter) account talking about his amazing start to the season. They shared the clip with a caption:
“First hole of the season for Scottie. Birdie. Of course.”
Kim reshared it on his X (formerly Twitter) account, reacting with a “Good Will Hunting” GIF. In the clip, Matt Damon’s character in the movie Will Hunting was seen talking to his professor about how easy a mathematical problem is.
“Do you know how easy this is for me? Do you have any f***g idea how easy this is? This is fu***g joke?”
The PGA Tour kick-started its new season at the Sentry Open in Hawaii last week. However, Scheffler skipped the tournament and played this week at The American Express. After the opening round of the event, Min Woo Lee took the lead in the game in a tie with Pierceson Coody. They settled with a score of 10 under.
Scottie Scheffler opens up about his performance at The American Express
Scottie Scheffler started his campaign with a birdie on the first hole at The American Express 2026 on Thursday. He added another birdie on the second hole, followed by four more birdies on the front nine. He added three birdies on the back nine for a round of 9-under and settled in a tie for third place after the first 18-hole game.
In the post-round press conference, Scottie Scheffler talked about his performance and said (via ASAP Sports):
“I got off to a good start today I was really sharp on the front nine. Made some nice putts. Hit some good iron shots. A lot of good tee balls. I wasn’t as sharp as I hoped to be on the back nine, but I scrambled pretty well and I was able to post a good score.
“….Felt I could have hit a few more fairways on the back nine, give myself some more opportunities. Even the fairways I was missing, I was missing on the correct side. The out of bounds can sneak up on you a little bit on this golf course. And it was nice, to, even though I wasn’t hitting it my best on the back, but to keep it in play and give myself some opportunities,” he added.
Scottie Scheffler had missed The American Express last year due to injury. He started the last season at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am with a T9 finish. He won six tournaments in 2025, and it would be interesting to see how things will unfold for him this year.
