Le’Veon Bell wasn’t impressed with the hiring of Mike McCarthy as the new Pittsburgh Steelers coach. The franchise reached an agreement with the former Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys coach on Saturday to replace Mike Tomlin, who was the NFL’s longest-serving injury coach before leaving.
Bell, who was a second-round pick by the Steelers in 2013 and was with the franchise until 2018, reacted to the news after it was reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The former NFL running back anticipates McCarthy’s failure at the franchise while expressing support for Mike Tomlin.
“4-13 incoming .. but hey, at least Mike Tomlin isn’t the coach of the Steelers anymore right?,” Bell wrote on X.
However, a fan on X replied to Le’Veon Bell amid his support for Tomlin, who decided to walk away from the franchise after 19 years earlier this month. The fan with the username @JHenley55 accused Bell of betraying Tomlin in Pittsburgh.

Bitch you left tomlin shut up,” the user wrote.
Bell had a belittling response to the user, asserting the fact around the accusation, while clapping back with an offensive troll.
“I didn’t leave “Tomlin” I left the “Steelers” .. you stupid fat fuck 😂😂 you can’t even show ya whole face in ya profile pic,” Bell wrote.
Le’Veon Bell, who’s now a professional boxer, left the Steelers after the 2018 season amid a contract fiasco with the franchise. After being placed on franchise tag worth $14.5 million for the second straight year, he refused to sign and didn’t show up for team activities. He became a free agent in March 2019.
The Steelers aren’t looking to win the introductory press conference amid criticism from Le’Veon Bell and others
The hiring of Mike McCarthy isn’t a popular decision among the Steelers fans. In his interview with Bob Labriola on Sunday, Steelers owner Art Rooney noted they aren’t looking to convince the fans in the introductory press conference amid harsh criticism from many.
“We’re really not worried about winning the initial press conference. It’s about picking the coach we believe will help us win games,” Rooney said, “and social media really doesn’t enter into it. And none of that will matter once we’re starting to play games.
“The message for our fans is we’re very excited. We think we have a coach who is well-equipped to lead us into the next winning phase of Steelers football, and that’s what it’s all about. I think they’re going to love Coach Mike.”
While Art Rooney is confident Mike McCarthy can lead the franchise to the next level following Tomlin’s era, there’s little confidence in the Pittsburgh native among the fans. McCarthy will need to get the ground running immediately next season to get the fans on his side and prove many like Le’Veon Bell wrong.
