“He wasn’t better than Philip Rivers”: NFL analyst Nick Wright doesn’t hold back while denying Eli Manning’s Hall of Fame credibility

Clamor is growing in Europe to boycott Trump’s World Cup

Nick Wright tore into Eli Manning’s Hall of Fame case after voters rejected the former New York Giants quarterback again. The FS1 analyst drew a comparison to Philip Rivers while making his argument against Manning’s enshrinement.

Wright co-hosts “First Things First” and covers the NFL. Manning fell short of Canton for the second year running despite finalist status both times.

Wright delivered his take on the show on Thursday after the Hall of Fame results dropped. He pointed to Manning’s career statistics and limited playoff success beyond two championship runs.

“I am doubting he gets in. And he’s not a Hall of Famer to me,” Wright said. “In that very long career, the only category he ever led the NFL in was interceptions, and he did that four times. He has two seasons where his team won a playoff game.

“Now, those seasons, they went 4-0 and one Super Bowl MVP, which is a remarkable accomplishment, but I view him as almost the threshold for very, very good player, not Hall of Famer.

“I like, I don’t actually think he was better than Philip Rivers, and I don’t think Philip Rivers is a Hall of Famer.”

Philip Rivers suited up for 18 seasons between 2004 and 2020. He came back last December at 44 years old to help the Indianapolis Colts after their starter went down.

The quarterback lost all three starts during his comeback before hanging it up for good. Rivers never missed a game across 240 straight regular season appearances and made eight Pro Bowls. His final numbers show more than 63,000 yards through the air and over 400 scoring tosses.

Eli Manning, meanwhile, topped the NFL in picks thrown four separate years. His teams finished .500 during the regular season, and he earned Pro Bowl honors just four times.

Fox Sports analyst Nick Wright also said Eli Manning benefited from playing in New York under a famous surname.

“If he was Eli Manson, or if he played in Pittsburgh, if he wasn’t a Manning that played in New York City,” Wright said. “I don’t think people would even really find it controversial that he’s not a Hall of Famer.”

Manning won twice against New England in February with victories over Tom Brady’s Patriots in 2008 and 2012. He’s also one of six players with multiple Super Bowl MVPs.
