1x PGAT winner recalls a Tiger Woods story after Brooks Koepka makes the cut in his PGA Tour return

Tiger Woods story after Brooks Koepka

PGA Tour winner Michael Kim recalled a Tiger Woods story after Brooks Koepka made the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open 2026. The five-time major winner returned to play on the PGA Tour at this week’s event, which started with its first round on Thursday. He was impressive with his game and made the cut after two rounds.

On Friday, Kim reshared a post by Golf Channel about Koepka, along with a long caption in which he talked about Woods’ impressive comeback in 2018 at the Farmers Insurance Open. The 15-time major winner missed the 2016-17 season and then returned to play in the 2017-18 season on the PGA Tour. He played at the Farmers Insurance Open in 2018 and settled for a T23 finish.

“Back in 2018 (I think), Tiger had made his anticipated comeback at Farmers. So much energy at the tournament. I had finished a little earlier than Tiger on Friday. He was on the North course needing one birdie to make the cut,” Kim wrote.

“I and many others sat in dining watching the TV. In there with us was the tournament director and I’ll never forget how pale his face was. 😂 He was so nervous, I told him, don’t worry Tiger is going to birdie the last hole, it’s a par 5. He did indeed birdie the last to make the cut and the tournament director breathed a massive sigh of relief haha,” he added.

Back then, Tiger Woods started his campaign at the Farmers Insurance Open 2018 with an opening round of 72 and then played in the next three rounds, carding 71, 70, and 72 to settle in a tie for 23rd place.

Meanwhile, this week, Brooks Koepka had a tough start to his game at the Farmers Insurance Open with an opening round of 73 and then carded 68 to make the cut in the event.

Brooks Koepka jumped 44 spots on the leaderboard after carding a 68 at the Farmers Insurance Open on Friday. He was tied for 58th place and talked about his performance in the post-round press conference. He said:

“It feels good. Just wanted to play four days this week, I think that was important. Played really solid today. Drove it a lot better. Putting, I feel like I hit a lot of great putts, they just didn’t go in. I felt like I was all over the lip today. But that’s golf. kind of poa greens.

“Maybe a touch conservative maybe putting, not as aggressive. I don’t know if those greens were a little bit slower but it felt like it. But that’s all right, got two days to figure it out and kind of really see where my game’s at, kind of take the reins off and go,” he added.

Meanwhile, in the last season of the LIV Golf, Brooks Koepka had some notable performances, which included a T7 finish at the LIV Golf Adelaide event. He settled for a solo second place in Singapore, while some of his other notable finishes were T18 in Miami, T17 in Korea, and T29 in Chicago events.
