In his introductory press conference, Joe Brady highlighted the sacrifices that coaches’ wives make. He also admitted that he missed his own child’s birth because of an NFL game.

However, not everyone was impressed with the Buffalo Bills coach’s dedication and loyalty to the game. South Salem high school baseball coach Max Price called out Joe Brady and criticized him for not being there by his wife’s side.

“Not being there for the love of your life while she delivers your shared child is not a flex. It’s an embarrassment,” Price tweeted.

In his press conference, Brady had expressed his gratitude to his wife for making sacrifices for his coaching career.

“This job demands sacrifice, right?” Brady said. “I’m calling you on the way to a game while you’re going into labor. I find out after the game, you give birth by yourself. This game takes away time, energy and presence from you.

“You’ve carried the weight that comes with this job so that I can pursue my calling. Your strength, your belief and your steadiness is the foundation that allows me to do what I do. … I am nothing without you and I will not get anywhere ever in life without you.”

The Bills fired Sean McDermott after ending the 2025 season with a divisional-playoff loss to the Denver Broncos. He spent nine seasons with the team while making the postseason eight times.

Joe Brady initially joined the team as the quarterbacks coach in 2022. He was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2024 and spent two seasons before taking over as McDermott’s replacement.Joe Brady expresses excitement about embracing new role as Bills HC

On Thursday, Joe Brady appeared on the “Pat McAfee” show. During this interview, he talked about focusing on the team’s holistic development rather than focusing just on the offense.

Brady also said that he’s looking forward to his first practice session so that he can cheer on the defense when Josh Allen fumbles his passes.

“I’m not an offensive head coach. I’m a head coach,” Brady said. “I can’t wait for the first practice, to go out there and Josh Allen throws a f*****g pick and I celebrate with the defense. Like I can’t wait to talk s**t with our offensive tackle who get beat. …

“It’s not like hey, I’m going out to practice and I’m just yelling at the defense. … I hope that’s the mentality and the mindset that our guys have is that they can’t view me in that way. …There’s got to be a different mentality in the way we go about it.”

The Bills last made the Super Bowl during the 1993 season (Super Bowl XXVIII). Can Brady help end the franchise’s championship drought?
