Jerry Rice is arguably the greatest player in San Francisco 49ers history. Rice built a Hall of Fame career in San Francisco and was instrumental in three Super Bowl titles.
Rice would love a statue outside the Levi’s Stadium in San Francisco, and owner Jed York agrees.
“He is the original goat. Let’s commission it! JR, wherever you want it, we got you, bud.” York said on ‘Up and Adams Show’ with Kay Adams.

Jed York became CEO of the 49ers in December 2008. He has seen the team make numerous deep postseason runs, even though they’re yet to reach the standards of the Joe Montana and Jerry Rice era.
Levi’s Stadium currently houses statues of Montana and Dwight Clark for “The Catch”. However, Rice is still expecting his. York’s words make it seem like it’s just a matter of time before he gets the honor.
Jerry Rice enjoyed a glittering 16-year career with the San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers drafted Jerry Rice in the first round of the 1985 draft. He was fresh off an impressive college football career with Mississippi Valley State.
Rice won three Super Bowl rings, one Super Bowl MVP, two NFL Offensive Player of the Year Awards and ten first-team All-Pro nods with the 49ers. He owns numerous franchise and NFL records.
Rice left the 49ers after the 2000 season. He joined the Oakland Raiders and posted two more 1,000-yard seasons. He retired after a brief spell with the Seattle Seahawks in the 2004 season. Rice is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame (2020 class), College Football Hall of Fame (2006 class), Black College Football Hall of Fame (2010 class), Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame (2007) class, and the Mississippi Valley State University Athletics Hall of Fame (2006) class.
Rice might not have retired as an active player with the 49ers, but he remains one of the team’s most beloved players. It’s simply a matter of time before he gets his statue outside Levi’s Stadium in San Francisco.
