Todd Monken will be Shedeur Sanders’ second coach in the NFL. The Cleveland Browns hired Monken as their new head coach after parting ways with Kevin Stefanski following a forgettable 2025 season.
NFL analyst Emmanuel Acho has warned Monken about what to do to avoid the same fate as his predecessor.
“The issue that Kevin Stefanski ran into was that he did not have a defined role for Shedeur Sanders. Shedeur had an undefined role in Cleveland, and as a result, Kevin Stefanski was hated, and the team lost games.
“If you’re Todd Monken. You’ve got to come in and say ‘Shedeur Sanders is the guy!” Acho said on a Tuesday episode of Speak Easy.

Monken joins the Browns after decades of climbing up the coaching ranks. He started out as a graduate assistant at Grand Valley State University in 1989 before earning his first coaching gig in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2007.
Monken was the Cleveland Browns’ offensive coordinator for the 2019 season. He now returns fresh off three impressive seasons as Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator.
Todd Monken attempted to draft Shedeur Sanders
It was with the Baltimore Ravens that Todd Monken and the rest of the coaching staff attempted to draft Shedeur Sanders. Sanders was fresh off an impressive college football career with the Jackson State Tigers and Colorado Buffaloes.
“We tried to draft your a** last year for God’s sake. It all worked out. You remember that, right? Some day we will get a chance to talk about that.” Monken told Sanders in a video posted by the Cleveland Browns.
Sanders will now have the chance to compete for the starting quarterback job with the Browns under a new dispensation. The Colorado project started seven games in 2025 and showed glimpses of the quality that had Mel Kiper livid over his fall in the draft.
Todd Monken is fresh off working with Lamar Jackson, and he’s widely considered one of the best offensive minds in football. It’ll be interesting to watch how he develops Sanders’ skill set and potentially develops him into one of the best QBs in the AFC.
