Chris Gotterup has established himself as a potential superstar on the PGA Tour with his second victory of the season at the WM Phoenix Open.

Chris Gotterup was rewarded with a stunning run of five birdies in six holes to conclude his final round at the WM Phoenix Open with a place in a playoff with Hideki Matsuyama.

What action should the PGA Tour take to stop appalling fan behavior after WM Phoenix Open controversy?

Disruptive fan behavior continues to plague PGA Tour events…

Ultimately, it would be the American who got the better of Matsuyama on the first additional hole. The victory has moved Gotterup up to fifth in the world rankings.

Chris Gotterup emulates Scottie Scheffler with his win at the WM Phoenix Open

Gotterup is proving that he can compete with the very best. He beat Rory McIlroy to the Scottish Open title last year, while he beat Scottie Scheffler by 10 shots when they played together at TPC Scottsdale last Thursday.

There is still work to be done for Gotterup. However, he has shown that he can beat anyone on his day.

He has also managed to emulate the world number one with his superb win at TPC Scottsdale in a remarkable turn of events.

otterup was making his 71st PGA Tour start at the WM Phoenix Open this past week. He made his debut at the 2022 Puerto Rico Open and now has four victories under his belt.

But he is not the only player to win in Phoenix on his 71st start.

In fact, Scheffler secured his first ever PGA Tour title at the 2022 WM Phoenix Open. He beat Patrick Cantlay after three additional holes in Arizona.

The similarities between Gotterup and Scheffler do not end there

Incredibly, Scheffler made his way into the playoff by making a birdie on four of his final six holes.

Of course, Gotterup was five-under par for the same stretch on Sunday before he ended up in the playoff with Matsuyama.

Scheffler’s win had the feel of a moment that confirmed beyond any doubt that he was an exceptional prospect – though few could have imagined what was to come.

Gotterup’s win on Sunday sent out a different message. It was a warning that no one can afford to sleep on his talent.

His challenge now is to somehow try and get close to the career path Scheffler went down after marking his 71st PGA Tour start with a win at the WM.
