The Chicago Bears’ search for a new stadium site took an interesting turn this week after Iowa state senators proposed a bill to lure the NFL franchise to the Hawkeye State.

The Bears have been seeking a new stadium, moving on from Soldier Field, which has been their home since 1971. Chicago identified a site in suburban Arlington Heights, where the Bears, worth $8,200,000,000 per Forbes, purchased the site of the former Arlington International Racecourse, as a potential site for a new stadium.

However, the Bears’ proposed construction of a new stadium in Illinois is at an impasse. The bill was filed in Iowa this week to “incentivize the building of a professional sports stadium by a National Football League franchise in the state.”

Meanwhile, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker said that the state administration continues to be in negotiation with the Bears over the construction of a new stadium in Arlington.

Iowa happy to be Bears’ new home amid impasse with Illinois

The Bears are reportedly taking a strong interest in a potential move to Iowa. Senator Kerry Gruenhagen reflected on the new proposed bill, saying Iowa is “happy” to be the Bears’ new home.

“The Chicago Bears are looking for a state that will appreciate them and welcome them with open arms, and we are filing a bill today that says Iowa is happy to be that home,” Gruenhagen said.

“This bill today is another great way we can show everyone Iowa is open for business and show a team in our neighboring state that we are ready for them if their home state doesn’t want them.”
