How Anthony Kim has made Bryson DeChambeau realize he needed to change strategy

Bryson DeChambeau has seen Anthony Kim up close and personal over the past 12 months or so when playing in LIV Golf events.

DeChambeau is tied for the lead at LIV Golf Adelaide after round one, following his superb six-under-par 66 at The Grange Golf Club.

Meanwhile, Anthony Kim is just one stroke off the lead after the 40-year-old compiled a fine round of 67 on day one of the second LIV Golf event of the 2026 season

Bryson DeChambeau hints he could make history at new event

Should Bryson DeChambeau leave LIV Golf in 2026?

Kim secured his return to LIV during the off-season, after he was relegated from the Saudi-backed golf league in 2025.

The former Ryder Cup star sealed one of only three spots at the LIV Golf Promotions event in Florida last month.

Talk about mental fortitude – Kim has been through the mire on the golf course and in his personal life over the past decade or so.

He deserves huge credit for not only turning his golf around, but more importantly, his life.

Anthony Kim made Bryson DeChambeau realize he needed to change strategy

DeChambeau spoke glowingly about Kim after his opening round in Adelaide on Thursday.

He was asked about the need for him to remain patient as he goes in search of more victories throughout the 2026 season.

And surprisingly, the two-time US Open champion highlighted how he learned from Anthony Kim in that regard.

AK was just up here, and he’s 40 years old now, DeChambeau said.

It was just really cool actually — not as a digression or whatnot, but it was really cool to see him, somebody that’s had a lot of difficulties change his life around.

Coming back out here and having the success that he’s had, it’s really cool to hear somebody like that say, even when he’s been through so much trouble.

He’s eight years older than me, to still say, look, it’s about patience and whatnot. It doesn’t matter where you are.

DeChambeau has learnt from Kim that patience is a virtue.

However, when you’re as talented as DeChambeau is, it must be incredibly difficult to remain patient when you’re not winning as consistently as you think you should be.

Bryson DeChambeau shouldn’t focus only on his patience

The 32-year-old is clearly good enough to win many more majors and LIV Golf events.

The year is 2030, where will Bryson DeChambeau be?

LIV Golf, the PGA Tour or on YouTube permanently…

I mean, look, it’s confidential. I’m not going to share too much, but the conversations are in process. We have to get to a place where both parties have a good understanding of one another. It is getting to a place that makes sense for both sides, and I think that can happen, but you never know.

However, one thing he will need to sharpen up on in 2026 and beyond is his iron play.

His lack of control with his irons cost him The Masters in 2025, and he surely would have been working on his spin control throughout the off-season.

2026 will be a hugely important year for DeChambeau, as he looks to make a real statement in the very biggest tournaments on the golfing calendar.

He obviously will have to be patient if he’s to win multiple tournaments, especially during the majors.

However, I would argue that the ability to control his distance and spin on his approach shots will be the most important change he could make.
