C.J. Stroud led the Houston Texans to their third straight postseason appearance in the 2025 season. However, there have been rumors about the quarterback’s future with the franchise.

NFL analyst Todd McShay said on Monday that he expects Stroud to be a trade target but Texans insider John McClain clapped back at the speculations.

“The Texans will NOT be trading CJ Stroud!” McCain tweeted.

McClain posted on X again just over 20 minutes later.

“These stories about CJ Stroud possibly being traded just blow me away. He ain’t getting traded. Davis Mills ain’t getting promoted to replace him. Let’s keep track of these tweets and post them right before camp begins for accountability purposes,” McClain tweeted.

McClain stressed on “The Locker Room With Landry Locker” podcast on Jan. 26 that he wouldn’t give Stroud a contract extension due to disappointing playoff performances. He urged Houston to pick up his fifth-year option instead.

Stroud completed 273 of 423 passes for 3,041 yards, 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions over 17 regular-season games in 2025. He added 209 rushing yards and one touchdown on 48 carries.

Stroud threw two touchdowns and five interceptions in two playoff games. The Texans were eliminated in the divisional round by the Patriots.

C.J. Stroud on his future with the Texans

C.J. Stroud addressed the extension talks while addressing the media following the Houston Texans’ divisional round exit.

“Yeah, I mean, it’s not in my control,” Stroud said on Jan. 18. “I did what I did on the field the last three years, and I started off my career in a very great way. I’m 24, got a lot of ball left ahead of me, and I think I look back at my career, and I’m doing a lot of things that, early in my career, a lot of people haven’t done a long time.”

Stroud stressed that he trusts whatever plan God has for him and that his focus is on moving forward. He also made it clear that he wants to remain in Houston for as long as possible because of how much he cares for the city.
