Daniel Jones was the Indianapolis Colts’ starting quarterback in the 2025 season. The Duke Blue Devils product thrived in Indy before he suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in Week 14. The Colts are expected to come to terms with Jones on a new contract.

However, a report from Stephen Holder says that Jones and the Colts are not close on a contract extension. Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant caught wind of the report, and he issued a warning to the Colts general manager, Chris Ballard.

“Eye tests don’t lie. Daniel Jones is your guy! He’s your franchise QB @Colts don’t get cute and fu** up something that has a lot of upside.” Bryant wrote on X.

According to Fan Sided, Chris Ballard typically likes to wait until the 11th hour to make deals. However, that could be a risky move this offseason due to the scarcity of proven QBs on the market.

Colts’ coach Shane Steichen’s system relies on a quarterback who can spread the ball around. Daniel Jones did that at an impressive clip in the first half of the 2025 regular season. He’ll surely have suitors in free agency.

Daniel Jones is fresh off a bounce-back year with the Colts

Daniel Jones had an up-and-down spell with the New York Giants to start his NFL career. The dual-threat QB led the Giants to just one playoff appearance in six seasons as their QB1. He dealt with inconsistency and injury issues during his time in New York.

Jones and the Giants parted ways in November 2024 after he was benched for Tommy DeVito. He would spend the rest of the season alternating between the Minnesota Vikings’ active and practice squads.

The New York Giants signed Jones on a one-year, $14 million prove-it contract. He competed with Anthony Richardson for the starting job and came out victorious ahead of the 2025 season. Jones would go on to have the best season of his career since helping the Giants reach the playoffs in 2022. He amassed a stat line of 3,101 passing yards, 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 13 games. He added 164 rushing yards and five ground TDs.

Jones now enters free agency with significantly more leverage than this time last season. All eyes will be on Chris Ballard and the Colts front office.
