Sports commentator Colin Cowherd did not mince his words when talking about Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson. His mom, Regina, acts as his agent. Despite being the face of the franchise, Cowherd is not sure if the team is looking to give the quarterback another extension.

On Saturday’s episode of “The Herd,” Cowherd clarified that he’s been a fan of Jackson and the Ravens. However, he also expressed his concerns about how the quarterback’s mom getting too involved in his professional career could have a long-term impact.

Cowherd also said that the Ravens are not regarded as Super Bowl contenders because of their current cap space and roster situation.

“I’ve always been a huge Ravens fan and a big Lamar supporter,” Cowherd said. “The Ravens are done being a Super Bowl bubble team. There’s no possible way with what they’re gonna pay. …

“The Ravens are out of the Super Bowl discussion with this new contract. … I’ve always been a big fan of Lamar Jackson. But between him mom acting as his agent, his refusal to do offseason camps, the mystery injuries, and, let’s be honest, the need to be the highest paid quarterback, … it’s starting to feel like a little Kawhi Leonard. Mercurial, mystery, family too involved maybe.”

According to Sportrac, Jackson’s cap hit for 2026 is valued at around $74.5 million. Colin Cowherd compared this to the Super Bowl LX champions, the Seattle Seahawks.

“His current cap hit is $74 million. Let me give you an idea of what that pays in Seattle. That would pay for Sam Darnold, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Devon Witherspoon, Nick Emmanwori, Grey Zabel and Demarcus Lawrence. And you’d still have enough money to buy every player a lifetime Starbucks card.”

In 2023, Lamar Jackson agreed to a five-year extension worth $260 million with the Ravens. He still has two years left on his current contract amid reports of another extension.

Ravens GM Eric DeCosta opens up about Lamar Jackson’s upcoming OTAs participation

On Tuesday, Ravens GM Eric DeCosta was questioned about Lamar Jackson’s participation in the upcoming organized team activities (OTAs).

He responded by stating the two-time NFL MVP is not required to be present, as it is voluntary participation.

“Those are voluntary,” DeCosta said. “Lamar’s a two-time MVP. I think he knows what it takes to get ready for the grind of the NFL season. He’s proven he can do it at a very, very high level and I have no preference.”

Last season, Jackson missed multiple games and practices due to injuries. He played in 13 games and recorded 2,549 yards and 21 TDs passing. The Ravens finished second in the AFC North with an 8-9 record and no playoff appearance.

In 2026, the quarterback will be playing under a new coach. They fired John Harbaugh after 18 seasons and brought in Jesse Minter as his replacement.
