Ty Simpson did not shy away from the spotlight when asked about the possibility of playing in New York. After meeting with the New York Jets at the 2026 NFL scouting combine, the Alabama quarterback made his stance clear on the franchise.
“If I have the opportunity to play in New York, they’re going to get the best Ty Simpson,” he said on Friday.
Simpson, widely viewed as the No. 2 quarterback in the 2026 class behind projected top pick Fernando Mendoza, met with Jets General Manager Darren Mougey, coach Aaron Glenn and offensive coordinator Frank Reich.
“It was great,” Simpson said. “Just talking ball, getting to know each other. Coach Reich is a great, great human being. Coach Glenn is a super juiceful guy. Installing some stuff [plays] and getting to know each other and getting on the [white] board is what I like. I really love the Jets.

“Really, really blessed to be able to have a meeting with them, and if I have an opportunity to play in New York, you know, like I said, they are going to get the best Ty Simpson they can get.”
The former Alabama Crimson Tide starter backed up his confidence with production. During an 8-1 start in his lone season as QB1, Simpson completed 66.9 percent of his passes with 21 touchdowns and one interception. His numbers, however, dipped during a 3-3 finish, but he still believes his preparation translates.
“I’m ready. I’m a franchise quarterback,” Simpson said. “Alabama prepares you most for the NFL. I’ve run an NFL-type system.”
There are concerns about his limited experience with just 15 career starts. Still, Simpson believes practice reps against NFL-level talent in Tuscaloosa were valuable development for him.
“I definitely think I have to play better,” he said of Alabama’s late-season slide. “I have to have accountability in that. I have to make sure that we win those big-time games.”

Ty Simpson’s Browns comments add pressure on Shedeur Sanders
Ty Simpson openly embraced the idea of joining the Cleveland Browns after revealing his family’s ties to coach Todd Monken.
“My dad and Coach Monken go way back,” Simpson said. “If I had the opportunity to play for the Browns, it would be a dream come true.”
“I think I’d be in great hands … what he does with the quarterbacks … is super quarterback-friendly,” he added.
With Simpson viewed as a choice behind Fernando Mendoza in the draft, Cleveland’s selection of him could intensify competition for Shedeur Sanders after his inconsistent rookie season.
